national research priorities

The Australian Prime Minister, at the 9th meeting of the Prime Minister’s Science Engineering and Innovation Committee (PMSEIC) held on 5 December 2002, announced four national research priorities:

(1) Safeguarding Australia,
(2) An environmentally sustainable Australia,
(3) Promoting and maintaining good health, and
(4) Frontier technologies such as geo-informatics.

Council noted that spatial information underpins three of these priorities and that ANZLIC has a role to play at a national level. The Prime Minister has written to the States and Territories on these research priorities and ANZLIC members will respond to this opportunity by promoting the importance of spatial information.
